YA SciFi series Randoms, by David Liss
David Liss typically writes historical fiction but was inspired by his kids to write young adult science fiction so they’d have some contemporary science fiction to read. The talents of David are vast! He’s written for Marvel comics, he’s written for video games, and of course he writes novels as well, the latest which is The Peculiarities, a fantasy set in our own history.
